Несмотря на представленные в этой книге пугающие истории о вредоносной моде прошлого и не менее печальные мысли об опасностях современной моды, я надеюсь, что нас ждет лучшее будущее. Будучи исследователем моды и преподавателем, я хочу, чтобы студенты задумались о будущем – о том, как они могут способствовать созданию более прекрасного мира. Прошлое показывает нам, как жажда наживы и погоня за новизной одержали верх над безопасностью и здоровьем. Более светлое будущее подразумевает конструирование и производство одежды, защищающей нас, а не подвергающей риску травм, инфекционных болезней, несчастных случаев и химических отравлений. Невероятно мощная социальная и экономическая сила, мода способна принести здоровье и благополучие тем, кто соприкасается с ней физически и эмоционально. Как доказывает эта книга, нам нужно сокращать число жертв моды (fashion victims) и обучать поколения спасителей моды (fashion saviours).
